SnackSmart
healthy snack suggestor.
Whenever I craved a snack, I mostly ended up choosing unhealthy options. Not because I wanted junk food, but because it was easy and familiar. I didn’t really think healthy snacks could be this convenient. That made me think—what if there was an app that suggests snacks based on cravings and preferences, but in a healthier way.

Initial Pain Points
- I often find it hard to switch to a healthy alternative, my hand instantly goes to the unhealthy snack.
- It feels like I’m wired to pick the unhealthy snack first.
- When it comes to snacking, I don’t even know what healthy option to eat.
🤔 Hypothesis - If there’s an app that structures snacking, then when it’s snack time I can pick a healthy option instead of the usual unhealthy one. And if I don’t like the suggestion, I can switch it. It can also show light snacks, heavy snacks, low-sugar, high-protein, and other simple indicators.
PROBLEM
Choosing the right outfit at the right time is often harder than it seems for me. I lose time, deal with confusion, and face decision fatigue because I have too many options and no easy way to see what works for the situation. This makes a simple daily task feel heavier than it should.
RESEARCH
SURVEY
I did a quantitative survey with 10 people to understand their snacking habits, and here’s what I noticed:
- Most people snack often, and cravings come up before hunger. Packaged snacks were the main pick, and taste + convenience mattered the most.
- Most said their habits are balanced and they’d try healthier options if they were easy to find.
- About half had tried switching, some weren’t sure, and a few said no; the ones who tried wanted healthy and tasty, and one person went back after a few days.
- Personalized snack suggestions got a 4.2/5, most respondents were 18–25, and the only extra comment was someone asking for fast food on the list.
With this data, I can now begin creating design process with insights such as most people snack often, taste mattered, many people wanted snack suggestions.
BRAINSTORMING

WIREFRAME
This is the rough wireframe I used to plan how everything would be arranged.
PROTOTYPE

- UI was rated as decent to good and easy to use
- Suggestions included adding weekly snack planning
- Requests for links to snacks, including homemade options
- Interest in recipes or videos for making snacks at home
- Desire for basic snack information (storage, shelf life, when to discard)
- Suggestion to adjust calorie counts based on quantity eaten (e.g., half portions, repeated servings)
REFLECTION
From user feedback, I realised that while the UI was usable, it felt basic and missing key features. People pointed out the lack of things like snack planning, recipes, clear snack information, and accurate portion-based calories. This showed me that the app solves the surface problem, but needs deeper functionality to actually be useful.
